5/6/15 Wednesday Case Study (50 word min)

CJ is a data analyst for a major casino and has to work after normal business hours to finish an important project.  He realizes he is missing data that was sent to his coworker Dane.  Recently, CJ noticed Dane typing his password and learned what it is.  He decides to log into Dane's computer and resend the data to himself.

Upon doing so, CJ sees an open e-mail to a local sports book regarding gambling bets Dane placed over the last several days.  CJ knows all casino employees are forbidden to engage in gambling activities to avoid any hint of conflict of interest.  He knows he should report this but would have to admit to violating the company's information technology regulations by logging into Dane's computer.  If he warns Dane to stop his betting, he would also have to reveal the source of his information.  Dane would know he used his password.  What does CJ do in this situation?

4/28/15 Case Study (50 word min)

The Right to Know

June is a 23 year old newspaper reporter who reports on crime in Atlanta.  On her way to work one day, she recognized several police officers hanging around her neighborhood.  She had interviewed some of them before and figured that, because they weren't in uniform, they must be on an undercover operation.  She called Karen, her source in the police department, who told her that a serial rapist had been striking in that neighborhood and there had already been five victims.  Karen also told her that if she reported on the sting, the rapist could be tipped off and skip town.  He might go to another city and attack more women.

June knows that if she reported the sting, no cop in the city would ever speak to her again.  But she also knows that women in her community are in imminent danger and feels that someone has to warn them.  What should June do?
