  1. When it comes to working at home and having three little sisters and two very busy parents one thing can happen. Babysitting. Now I know it might not be challenging for you but when you have three pre-teen sisters running around, fighting, and trying to set the house on fire...sisters. It becomes a hand full. But of of all the chaos I learned how to manage time, be alert, and hear out everyone. Not to mention but also know when to put your foot down. This helps me in AG and FFA to learn how to be a good leader and role model and also listen to everyone around me. In the creed I learn to be a good FFA member one of the qualities is being in the know and being a responsible leader to your self and others around you. Plus even though that was difficult and still is... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

  2. I believe that the most difficult challenge that I've had to deal with during my time in this SAE is learning how to deal with the rowdy kids. It's hard to teach kids that have always felt it was okay to talk down to someone. I had to really make sure I was firm on my decisions and make sure that they knew I can be fun and have everything organized. It was also quite hard when the kids would become mad at me because I would tell them that they needed to lay down, eat, or stop doing something. I think that this really made my ability for standing up for what I believe in grow quite a lot. I've also had to deal with the parents that either wouldn't pay me or would pay me way less than I deserved. Now, I'm not saying I only asked for the money, but it was kind of outrageous when I would babysit twins for 5 hours and only get 5 dollars. I had to learn how to stand up for what I thought was right and I think I did earn a lot of respect from the parents because of that.

  3. I believe that the most difficult challenge that I've had to deal with is not getting frustrated when I mess up. There is a lot and I mean a lot of little steps that really don't seem like they are important to the final project but they are. You have to be patient and realize that it will come to you in time and practice. I kept having to tell myself that I w9ll get it and I just need to be patient. I kept having to redo things and I was just wishing that it would be over and done sooner rather than later. But once it was done I felt very accomplished and I was happy. I could look at something that people are going to show everybody and look at, at a daily basis. That made me feel good.

  4. I believe that the hardest challenge about SAE is working on the farm. You have to be ready to take time off your schedule to go and help out and for me it's hard to say no because I don't want to let my dad down. I want to be there to help him out but sometimes whether I'm really tired or I have a lot to do it is hard to go and help when he needs me. When I can help him however I feel good about it because I'm doing something and helping him out. I like going to help him in some ways but some jobs are just boring and I do not want to do them. My dad is my role model and seeing him get up and go to work every day is part of the reason I go and help him when he needs me but I sometimes don't feel like going. The good thing about working on the farm is that I do not have to work every day. I only help out once in a while when they really need me.

  5. In detasseling the worst part about it are the conditions. It's either really cold and wet or really hot. There is no in between. In the morning it's real cold and wet and in the afternoon you wish you were cold and wet. One of the main reasons I even got up so early in the morning to go to detasseling was to see my friends and because of the money.

  8. In Detasseling it's always wet in the morning and let me tell you a poncho and a hoodie would have been nice during those times, but I never really cared about getting wet until last summer. It was like it was even colder, but by the afternoon you were starting to feel the sun on your back and your clothes were just starting to dry and then it down pours. That happened and let me tell you it was fun while it lasted for about 2 minutes straight. You also have to be careful about what you do and say in the field, because they can hear it even if you don't think they can't. A lot of people get fired because of that or their not doing their job. Being of higher rank you have to teach and be a role model to those around you.

  10. My biggest challenge in detassling was getting up every morning and being dedicated to it for those 3 weeks every day. Waking up at 5:30 every morning was very hard to do especially since it was in the summer. Also the conditions are very horrible in the morning and in the afternoon. In the morinings i had to wear a poncho and alot of warm clothes. Then in the afternoon i would undress a couple layers and take off my poncho. Then when it was really hot i would get corn rash very badly and my skin would sting the next morning when the water got into my cuts. The only thing that kept me coming back was the money and to show people around me that i dont give up.

  11. Being a detasseler worker has taught me that everyone needs to find out what is best for them and work at their pace. If you just try to keep up with your friends or only use your job as a social meeting place you will not truly reap the benefits from your job. If you use your resources for what it meant for you will get more out of it. Some of the worse things that can happen to you are corn rash, sunburn, or heat rash. If you get any of these your day automatically becomes much worse than it would be if the only problem were the heat and dew on the corn while working in the early morning. Trying to avoid these problems are practically pointless because they happen almost not matter what. And this is why the challenges of detassling have made me a more responsible individual.
