Friday 2/13/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Overlooked

Elise has worked in the same position for the past three years.  She is a dedicated worker who is well respected and liked by both management and her coworkers.  On at least three seperate occasions, she has applied for management positions that were ultimately give to staff members with less experience and education.  In the most recent case, the position was filled with an employee they hired from outside the company.  She doesn't know why this is happening.  She thinks this is unfair and has become angry, bitter, and resentful.  She wants to confront management about being overlooked for promotions, but is afraid they will see how bitter she has become.  She is wondering if she should just look for a new job.  What should Elise do?

  1. I would calmly go into the management and ask what she was missing that they were looking for. If they wont tell me or overlooking me for something I cant change then I would go look fro a different job. But you have to try first because there might be a reason.

  2. I would just go ask them and ask why they aren't promoting her when she is doing a good job. I think that it isn't fair for them to be keeping her there when she is working hard and doing the best out of mostly everyone. I would just go ask and see what they say.

  3. I would confront them and ask them nicely. There may be another factor in it, such as getting angry when something doesn't go her way...If they don't want to talk about it or give her a reason I would wait until the next time they pick a manager and if she doesn't get it, she should look for a new job. She shouldn't do it right away, though.

  4. I would ask why she hasn't been promoted yet when she is doing good at her job. I think that they shouldn't keep her in the same position because she is working harder than everyone else and she deserves to get promoted. Its not going to hurt anything by going and asking them just to see what they would say.

  5. I would ask if they could give her a promotion and if they don't just mention that she has been working really hard and it would be nice to get a promotion. But be nice when asking it so that it would be something that they would be thinking about

  7. I would tell myself that maybe I wasn't the person they were looking for. I would wait until another opening comes up for the taking. If I didn't get that one either then I would go to management and ask them what wrong with my application. Then when another time comes for another opening then I would know what to put on the application for that job opening.

  8. I would be very upset. If she has been working there for awhile and done her job properly it should've been given to her. She should just keep working hard and doing her best. Eventually she should find out why she is not getting promoted. She needs to ask nicely when she does it and not be angry when she does it.

I would ask the management what she is behind on and what she needs to do to get things done. She shouldn't get angry at them though because it is her fault that the work isn't done. It is her fault not thiers.

  10. I think that she should stay at her job because it will take a while for her to find another job that she likes. She should work harder to get them to notice instead of confronting them. If they don't seem to notice after awhile then i would calmly go ask what she would be doing better. It may be that they want someone fresh to train for this job specifically and that she is going to be promoted in the future.
