Tuesday 2/10/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Unwelcome Job "Advancement"

When Kaleb takes his break in the staff room, Julia, his supervisor, follows him.  She likes to fix his coffee and hand it to him as she backs him into the corner of the room.  She compliments him on what his is wearing and how good he smells.  She jokingly tells him how good they would look together and what a great team they would be.  He knows she is actually serious because she continually tells him that she could help him get promoted if only they were a couple.  He often talks about his girlfriend and tries to distract her with small talk and work-related conversation.  His is now skipping his break when she is around to avoid getting cornered by her.  Julia makes Kaleb feel very uncomfortable, but he doesn't want to treat his supervisor rudely because he needs this job.  Kaleb has told his girlfriend about the problem, and she is insisting that he do something about is.  What should Kaleb do?  What would you do if you were Kaleb?

  1. He needs to say something about it, because it isn't right. She shouldn't tell him that he could get a promotion for being a couple. That is manipulating him. Also he has mentioned that he has a girlfriend and obviously its pretty serious or he would have just dated Julia to get a better job position. There has to be someone higher than Julia that he can talk to about this situation.

  2. I think he should just tell her that he is feeling uncomfortable with the things she is saying to him. If I were him thats what I would do. She shouldn't fire him just because he doesn't like her. He needs to tell her truth. That would be the best thing to do. If he really needs this job her should not quit. If it would be easy for him to get another job and this is still happening, then I would tell him to just leave that job.

  3. I would tell Julia that it isn't appropriate to be acting this way and that she needs to stop flirting with him because it isn't professional. It is not right for her to be flirting with him when he has a girlfriend and bringing up a promotion just to be with him isn't right. I would talk to her and if she doesn't stop then go from there and contact her boss or whoever is in charge to see if they can do something about it.

  4. I think he needs to tell her that he is starting to feel uncomfortalble with everything that she has been doing to her. He shouldn't date her either just to get a promotion. If something like that happened to me Thats probably what I would do just becuase it seems like the legit thing to do in that kind of situation.

  5. Explain to Julia that what she's doing is inappropriate and that he already has a girlfriend. It's just not right, it's messed up. She's just using him and it's nasty. If she continues to do it he needs to tell someone higher up than her. Either that or have his girlfriend come over when it's his break.

  6. If i were kaleb i would tell her that she is being unsophisticated and two workers should not have a relationship. That he also has a girlfriend and is very happy with her. He is there for work not to get cornered into dating her. That she is a supervisor not his girlfriend. If he wants to get up higher that he wants to do it by working to the top.

  7. If I were Kaleb I would send in an anonymous complaint to the supervisor of his supervisor. If it is looked over and nothing is done after that I would tell her straight up that I have a girlfriend and that it is socially improper to be engaged in work place relationships.

  8. One I hate sharing the name with that weirdo. If I were him I would try to avoid her as much as possible and one day sit her down and tell her that Im uncomfortable with what she is trying to do. Also that he isn't available and love the person I'm with already.

  9. I would say something to her that you don't feel comfortable around her with the things she is saying to you. If i was Kaleb that is what I would do. He shouldn't get fired just because he doesn't like her. That would be the best thing for him to do would be to tell the truth. Even if he did get fired he would be able to find another job soon anyway.

  10. I would say something to her because you don't feel comfortable around her because of the things that she is saying. If I were him that would be what I would say. He should not be fired just because he doesn't like her. The truth is always the best way out of a situation like this. I'm sure he could be able to find another job.

  11. I would tell my supervisor to back off. He has a girlfriend so he should tell her that he has a girlfriend. Also if there was someone higher above his supervisor I would tell that person about how she makes me, if I was Kaleb, feel uncomfortable.

I would talk to her and if she doesn't stop then go from there and contact her boss or whoever is in charge to see if they can do something about it and if you doesn't stop and get a restraining order cause she's CRAZY.
