Rosa recently issued a reminder to her employees about non-smoking areas. She reminded them about the dangers of smoking in the warehouse vicinity where highly flammable and combustible materials are stored. She also reminded them about the small fire that broke out in the warehouse several years ago. She explained that smoking areas are designated outside the buildings for use during breaks. For several weeks after the reminder, Justin noticed the smell of cigarette smoke every time he went out to the warehouse. He also noticed that Tami makes an unusual number of daily trips out to the warehouse area. He knows she is a smoker but never sees her use the designated smoking areas. Justin decided to ask Tami why she never used the break area outside. She told him its too cold out there in the winter and too hot in the summer. Justin enjoys working with Tami and she is valued employee, but he's concerned about his safety at work. What should Justin do?
I would tell Tami that she needs to go to where smoking is allowed because it is wrong for her to be putting others in harms way because she is smoking where other employees walk. If she doesn't move then tell your boss and he can do something about it because she can't just do whatever she wants.
ReplyDeleteI think Justin should confront Tamil and ask her to smoke in the designated smoking area. Even if she is a great employee you need to worry about your and everybody else's safety. If she doesn't say she has been doing it just ask her to keep her eyes out for anther person if you have seen them.
ReplyDeleteI would inform Rosa that I had some suspicions that Tami was smoking in a non-smoking area. I think since Rosa seems like the person in charge in this place she is the one that should be taking care of this situation. I wouldn't want to get too involved in this incident.

ReplyDeleteIf I was Justin I would tell Rosa and let her now about Tami not using the designated areas for smoking and then I would tell Tami that she needs to use the designated areas because she could be putting people's lives at risk if she doesn't use the designated areas for smoking.
ReplyDeleteI would sit down and tell her that she needs to stop smoking in the area where it is prohibited. If she did not stop I would go to someone else that is closer to her so that she really believed it was wrong and that she should not do that.
ReplyDeleteI would tell Tami that she needs to use them and suffer through it or she could just not smoke during the day. This may seem like bad choices, because either way she has to so something she doesn’t want to, but if she burns down the warehouse she could be responsible for the deaths of everyone who lives there.
ReplyDeleteI would tell Tami that she is a great employee, co-worker and doesn't want to lose her due to a simple habit. She is offended I would try to give her suggestion other than the warehouse to smoke. Maybe bring a coat that you leave at work during the winter and wear layers during the summer. I would also remind her of the speech Rosa gave. If I can't get her to stop I would tell Rosa but, also remind Rosa of how much of a hard worker she is.

ReplyDeleteI would tell her she had to quit smoking in the non-smoking area because it is harming others and making the area look trashy with cigerett butts. She might have a bad habbit but she needs to work on better behavior if she wants to have a good reputation at work and to the others

ReplyDeleteI would say that Tami has been smoking in a non-smoking area and it is unfair to others. That should be the area where non smokers can have there free air. If she doesnt want to loose her job over a habit she should at least follow the rules. If its too cold during the winter then maybe tell her to not go out.
