Thursday 4/2/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Mike landed his dream job a year ago.  He's doing what he loves and works with a great group of people.  His employer and coworkers seems very pleased with him, his work ethic, and the quality of his work.  He has earned an excellent reputation.  He was excited last week when another position opened up and he helped his friend, Anthony, get hired, too.  But after only a week, Mike is starting to wonder if he did the right thing by providing such a strong recommendation for Anthony.  By the end of the first week, Anthony started coming in a few minutes late, taking extra long breaks and texting his girlfriend throughout the day.  Anthony isn't taking his training seriously, and Mike has been covering for him.  Mike is disappointed in Anthony's lack of effort and is starting to feel Anthony is abusing their friendship.  He is hoping his friend's poor performance doesn't reflect badly on him.  Mike has tried to talk to Anthony, but he just laughs it off and teases him for being a "company man."  What should Mike do?

  1. Mike should tell Anthony he needs to take work seriously because hes not just putting his job in jeopardy but his too. Mike did him a favor and got him the job so he shouldnt be acting like a fool and ruining the opportunity. Mike might not want to loose his friendship but work is more important. If his friend doesnt have enough respect to do good at work for Mike then hes not a very good friend to began with anyway. Mike needs to tell Anthony wassup.

  2. I think Mike needs to really enforce what he needs to be doing. He needs to get the idea of being a professional and mature co-worker through his head. If not be might need to lay Anthony off to prove Mike's point. It is a touchy thing to do and to keep that friendship I think Mike needs to tell him he is his friend but jobs are not a place for bestie related things.

  3. I think Mike really needs to stand up to Anthony and tell him that you slacking off is looking bad for him too not just himself. That he needs to start coming in on time and not texting people. I am sure that there are lots of people that would kill for the job he got so he should be proud and represent the company well.

  4. I think that mike should tell Anthony that hes not doing his job and if he continues to not do his job he may not be working there for much longer. Some else should tell Anthony that if he keeps showing up late and not doing what he's suppose to then he might as well not come to work.If he doesn't want that job anymore I bet there is tons of people who would want to work here and actually get the job done and not just mess around while they are at work.

  5. I feel like Mike needs to just tell Anthony straight out that he needs to actually work. If he doesn't, then stop covering for him. It's one thing to put your job on the line, but when you're putting someone else's it's just not right. There are a lot of people who actually work, but don't have or get a job so he should be grateful that he has one.

  6. I think that Mike needs to tell Anthony to straighten up his act because he gave his word to try and get Anthony the job so Anthony needs to tai sit seriously. By taking advantage of Mike to get the job isn't good because seeing how he is working he shouldn't have gotten the job in the first place.

  7. Mike needs to get serious and tell him if he doesn't start doing his work he won't have a job. You can't just do whats going to make him happy. He was being nice by giving him a job but so far his friend has not proved that he deserves that job. He can't just mess around while he is there.
