5/12/15 Case Study Response (50 word min)

Hands off, Please

Ava loves her new job.  Recently, her supervisor, Keith, has been making her feel very uncomfortable.  In spite of her objections, Keith finds ways to get physically close to her, brushing lightly agains her or playfully cornering her in a room.  On one occasion, while Ava was dispensing mail in the mailroom, Keith quietly entered the room and snapped her bra strap.  Ava was so shocked she didn't respond.

She really needs this job and doesn't want to anger her supervisor.  She often laughs off his advances and tells him her boyfriend would not like this.  She doesn't have a boyfriend but is hoping Keith might take the hint.  She is starting to feel anxiety about going to work and worries about getting trapped along with Keith.  She is also hesitant to confront Keith's supervisor for fear of this response.  What should Ava do?

  1. I think that she should tell his supervisor and get him fired because it isn't like you will be the one getting in trouble. It isn't appropriate for him to be flirting when you don't like him and don't want him to be touching you constantly. I think that by telling his boss it will get him in trouble and maybe fired so you won't have to live with him anymore.

  2. I think that she needs to tell her supervisor to get him fired or in a different department. There is no need to be doing this to her and it has gotten to far. I would tell him to stop and tell him that she does not like him and he needs to leave her alone. If he doesn't then get other people involved.

  3. If i were her i would definitely not put up with that. I would tell her superviosor what has been going on and get him fired or the problem fixed. If this does not get fixed at her work calling the cops could be an option when he is harrassing her physically. If the problem isnt getting fixed i would start looking for a new job and quit this one.

  4. she needs to say something to her boss so that guy will either get fired or get talked to. I wouldnt just keep letting it go i wouldnt be able to stand it for much longer. I would ask him to stop many of times and then if he didnt i would tells someone whose in charge.

  5. Well, to make see if he stops I would bring in a guy friend for lunch or something and introduce him as a friend. If he still doesn't back off I would file for sexual harassment. If she feels he's getting extremely too close she needs to quit her job. She shouldn't have to put up with that. I would try to find a job before I quit.

  6. I don't know how she even let it go for that long. I would tell him straight up and if he has a problem with that and I get fired, I will find a better and more comfortable job. Now, if there is no other job in a 20 mile radius. I'll try to be as nice as I can about it while still making it known that this isn't a working environment anymore, its a high school movie.

  7. Well this is probably not an appropriate thing to do. Especially in a working environment. She should definitely say something to someone. She needs to tell straight up to stop instead of hoping he will take a hint.

  8. I think that Ava should tell her superviser to stop. He doesn't have a right to do that and its innapropirate and uncalled for. He needs to take a hint and back off her or she needs to tell him straight up to stop. You shouldn't have to feel uncofortable going to work. I also think he just needs to grow up.

  9. I think that she should go to tell the supervisor and tell him what is going on and how he is being inappropriate around her and tell him that she just wants to do her job nothing else.

  10. i would talk to some of her co workers and see what they think she should do and if this has happened to anyone else or id its just her and if it keeps going on i would just say i am uncomfortable with it and say your a good guy but please stop if that doesnt work i would go to his supervisors.

  11. If I were Ava I would but in a complaint with the human resources department. I wouldn’t fear telling his supervisor because this is a serious issue. It is wrong for him to be doing this in a place of work. If this wasn’t enough she could always have someone pose as a boyfriend and come to work with her and follow her around. If it still isn’t enough you can get a restraining order if it gets to bad.

  12. I think if Ava is uncomfortable with her supervisor she needs to go to Keith's supervisor or the boss of the company that she works for because that's just wrong. Keith should understand that he was in the wrong and shouldn't be making advances on Ava especially when she told him that she has a boyfriend, not really, but she doesn't like the way that Keith treats her. She needs to stand up and tell keith and if that doesn't work go to his supervisor or the boss of the company like I said earlier.
