One of Mara's responsibilities is to keep the supply cabinets stocked at work. She shops for coffee and janitorial supplies and orders office supplies as needed. Kristin needed to restock the paper towels in the ladies' room, so she borrowed Mara's key. At the end of the day, as Mara walked to her car to go home, she remembered she forgot to get the cabinet keys back from Kristin. She realized she would need them early in the morning to set up for a meeting.
She went back inside and found Kristin gathering supplies from the cabinet. She had collected several binders, packages of pens, and mechanical pencils, highlighters and spiral-bound notebooks. When Kristin saw Mara, she was startled. She explained she had been working so late the past week that she was unable to pick up school supplies for her kids, and school was starting tomorrow. Mara didn't know what to say. She knows Kristin works extra hours and doesn't ask for compensation, but does that make it OK to take supplies from work? Mara's employer entrusted her with the keys and made her responsible for supplies. What should Mara do?
I think that she should help her out with the school supplies but she should not take them from work unless it is ok'd by the boss. She can pay extra money and just order her kids supplies with the work supplies if she isn't able to get to the store or take some but pay the company back if that is ok with the boss.
ReplyDeleteI think Kelsey is right with this one. Stealing is wrong, no matter what it is. Even if you think no one will notice, more than likely they will. I believe that she should have her put the stuff back and if she felt compelled that she should maybe give her a little bit of money to help out. Walmart's open all night. They can go there and get some.
ReplyDeleteI think that the only way it would be okay for her to take the supplies from work would be if she bought them later and put them back so then it wasn't like stealing and not giving back what she took. If she was planning on not giving it back then I would tell the boss because taking without asking isn't okay.
ReplyDeleteI think that its okay for her to take the supplies from would would be okay but she should probably ask the boss first. If she takes them then she better make sure she brings them back so she's not like stealing them.
ReplyDeleteShe should make her put the supply back. Tell her to go to walmart. She is getting paid to work there and they both could get fired if the supply is short. It is stealing from their company. Its wrong and she needs to tell her that she needs to put it back. If i were her i would make sure that she did because i could get fired since those were my keys and she was taking supply.

ReplyDeleteI think with her situation she should just let her take the supplies. But she should have to buy new ones and put them back at a later date. It would not be fair to other employees if she could just take them for herself.
ReplyDeleteIf I was Mara, I would just let Kristin take the supplies. A single mother on her own is hard enough. Getting stuff for your kids when you work long hours is limited because of the hours you work. Clearly Kristin has never asked for anything before. Let her take the supplies. Buying replacements isn't all that expensive.

ReplyDeleteI think Mara needs to stop her from getting them from work. But I also think she needs to help her out too. I think by getting the supplies for her and giving them to her with Kristen's own money. Possibly Kristen can pay Mara and Mara can replace them.
ReplyDeleteI would let her take them but i would have her replace them within the week at the very least. If she didn't replace them i would turn them in. She does work late without compensation so in away she has earned the trust to get what she might need.
